Your Day-to-Day at Pipes in Paradise: A Melodic Escape to Bali!

Imagine this: warm tropical air, the scent of fresh coffee drifting through a luxurious Balinese villa, and the gentle hum of pipes warming up in the background. Welcome to PIPES IN PARADISE – where serious piping meets soul-recharging island living.

Your day begins at 8:30 AM with a cup of coffee in hand, settling in among like-minded pipers ready for inspiration and progress. The morning kicks off at 8:45 AM with a short recap of the previous day’s breakthroughs and a discussion about where you’d like to focus your tuition for the day. This tailored approach ensures your learning experience is all about you.

From 9:00 AM to 10:15 AM, you dive into focused workshops led by some of Australia’s top tutors: Whether you’re finessing technique and timings with Tutor Barry, getting your sound right with Tutor Jonno, or delving into Piobaireachd with Tutor Sam (learning your new tune’s Urlar and Variations 1 & 2), the sessions are intensive, insightful, and completely energizing.

A refreshing 10:15 AM break recharges you for the next session. From 10:30 AM to 11:45 AM, the learning continues with hands-on instruction. Tutor Barry guides you on Strathspey & Reel instruction, teaching you how to create lift and project rhythm. Tutor Jonno focuses on balancing your drones to create that desired organ-like effect, while Tutor Sam helps you master your Urlar and first two variations on your pipes. These sessions are designed to elevate your piping from competent to captivating.

At 11:45 AM, you break for a delicious villa-catered lunch, often enjoyed poolside. Then it’s back into the music from 12:30 PM to 1:45 PM with afternoon sessions that combine technical drills with performance coaching. Tutor Barry leads rhythmic exercises and jig playing, building your confidence for polished solo playing. Or with Tutor Jonna showing you how to make that reed you have that is way too hard, sing like a bird.  The Piobairrachd class with Tutor Sam will discuss just where to tapper off those phrases so you tune becomes one other  pipers envy and aspire to emulate.  .

After a quick 1:45 PM to 2:00 PM refreshment break, you’ll spend from 2PM to 3:00 PM playing on your pipes, covering off solo piping protocol and presenting a truly polished solo performance. Every day will differ, driven by your personal needs, and all three tutors will have an array of exercises, tunes, and playing drills proven to assist you on your journey to becoming the piper you truly want to be.

For those staying in the Pipers in Paradise Villa, the piping doesn’t stop when the lessons end. From 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM, afternoons invite you to cool off in the pool, relax with a drink, and engage in rich conversations with tutors and other guests about piping history, tune composition, and shared tales from decades of musical adventures.

At 5:00 PM, you’ll start getting ready for dinner, departing at 5:30 PM for an evening in town. Evenings are spent exploring the local area and enjoying vibrant group dinners – nourishing friendships as much as the body and soul.

Every day at PIPES IN PARADISE is a perfect blend of progress, passion, and paradise. Whether you’re here to refine your sound, dive deeper into tradition, or simply reconnect with your love of piping – this is an event not to be missed.
