At the SSPD, bagpipe lessons vary from group sessions to personalized instruction. Students begin with the practice chanter, mastering scales and basic tunes before transitioning to the bagpipe. With consistent practice, joining a band typically occurs within 9 to 12 months.

Bagpipe Lesson Options


Bagpipe lessons at the SSPD are structured to accommodate various preferences and locations. Group sessions cost AUD$15 per week and run for 45 minutes. These sessions are held at Vineyard on Mondays from 5:30 pm to 7:00 pm, and at Werai (Moss Vale) on Tuesdays from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm.

Individualized Learning

Individual one-on-one lessons are available at different rates: AUD$60 for a 45-minute session, AUD$48 for a 45-minute Zoom session, and AUD$36 for a 30-minute session. Alternatively, tutors can provide private lessons at your premises for a duration of 45 minutes at a cost of AUD$88.

Commencing Bagpipe Learning

When commencing bagpipe learning, students start with a practice chanter, available for purchase at AUD$125 from www.berlsatrading.com.au. Access to The Millennium Method online tutorial system is also available for US$99.

Progress and Mastery

On the practice chanter, students learn scales, embellishments, and 6 basic tunes. Mastery typically takes around 9 months, with a recommended minimum of 30 minutes of daily practice. Once proficient, students may consider joining a band, typically after 9 to 12 months of progress.
